The Great Agent Hunt
Author: Hannah Dills
Original Publication Date in Love Notes: September 2008
Overwhelmed by the three-inch size of The Writer’s
Market? Are you finding The Guide to Literary Agents a little
daunting to identify the perfect romance agent for your work? Other romance
authors have been there before, too.
Try going online. There are several websites that have lists of literary
agents who specialize in the romance genre. Here are a few of my favorites:
www.publishersmarketplace.com --
Publishers Marketplace provides agents with an
opportunity to create a page detailing what they are currently looking for, some
of the works they represent, and how they prefer to see queries. Best of all,
you can perform searches to find the agent who is best for you. So, if you
would like to find an agent who represents both romance and children’s works,
you can narrow down the list to suit your needs!
www.passionatepen.com --
The Passionate Pen site provides a list of agents
who represent romances as well as links to their websites and their submissions
guidelines. There is also a handy Agent FAQ site that may be helpful if this is
your first time to submit.
www.joanswan.com --
A romantic suspense author who managed to finally
find the perfect agent for her work, Joan Swan has already done research in the
literary industry to narrow down a list of agents. She is nice enough to share
her list with others!
www.geocities.com/romgateway/agents.html --
This is the Romance Web Gateway site, which
provides a list of agents who represent romance along with their addresses and
phone numbers. And one more,
www.agentquery.com, a clearinghouse of all sorts of agent preferences and
represented genres.
These sites help you spend more time writing and less on
trying to track down an agent for all your hard work. With a lot of the
research done for you, its time to polish up your query letter and start
submitting!
Happy Hunting!
