Speak Up! The Worst Part about Writing
Author: Mary Varble
Original Publication Date in Love Notes: October 2005
Speak Up: Writing: It's who we are and what we do, but is there
something about it that you dislike?
Beth Pattillo: I hate, hate, hate writing new pages. I can revise 'til
the cows come home, but getting my posterior into the chair and getting started
is like pulling teeth, each and every day. If anyone has a cure for this
condition, please let me know!
Cheryl Zach (Nicole Byrd): What I dislike: Getting stuck with ugly
covers. Bad Amazon reviews--just had one, ouch. To think I used to wish to be
well known enough to have readers
send in reviews--ha, be careful what you wish for! Happily, the nasty review
seems to have prompted several very nice reviews, by readers I don't even know,
and who can actually spell--wonders never cease! <G>
Janice Lynn: The thing I dislike the most about writing is the emotional
ups and downs over the business side of writing. One minute you're flying high
and the next you're in tears. I'm hoping that with time and experience this
improves, but several published friends have warned me otherwise.
Kathy Richards (Kate Lyon): Dislikes about writing: The whole experience
of being published is still new enough that my outlook remains optimistic. It's
still a thrill.
Jody Wallace: The part of writing I dislike is the not getting published
part.
Mary Varble (Marie-Nicole Ryan): I hate, hate revisions
and proofreading. I can never find all the typos, revision glitches, etc. Maybe
I hate revisions because they’re a reminder that I don’t do it perfectly the
first time. That really bugs me! Another thing that bugs me is the length of
time I have to wait for a response from the big boy publishers. Patience has
never been one of my virtues.
